The story of Beauty and the Beast comes from a traditional fairy tale written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve in 1740. It tells of a kind and brave girl who sets off on an adventure and finds a castle under a spell. She is held prisoner by the Beast until he hopes she falls in love with him and the curse is broken.
